Time Management

Does it ever feel like there is never enough time in the day? Are you always rushing? Do you feel stressed at the end of the day? Do you believe that you are not accomplishing what you hoped? Better time management may be the answer.

Dr. Respect at http://marcusgentry.blogspot.com says we must “protect, organize and prioritize our time”. If you are having any of the above listed difficulties, then my guess is you are missing at least one of those elements.

Protecting our time is important. We all have the same amount of time in a day. It’s what we do with it that is critical. Do you find yourself doing things you really don’t want to do or spending time with people who take more than they give? These are examples of not protecting your time.

Your time is your gift to spend, as you will. You can spend it wisely or you can waste it. It’s your choice. However, one thing you can’t do is get it back to do over again.

Sometimes we all do things that we don’t really want to be doing but when we do, it should be in furtherance of a bigger goal that we have. Maybe we don’t want to be going to work today but we want to collect our paycheck at the end of the week, so it’s something we choose to do to get to the bigger payoff.

However, there are things that we do that just aren’t important, don’t lead to anything and waste our time. Can you think of any activities that fall into that category for you? Do you know that the average American watches on average three hours of television each day? How is that for a time waster?

I know when I first got my computer, one of the things I unwisely spent my time on was computer games. I don’t mean an occasional game here or there. I’m talking about an addiction, an obsession—playing solitaire until 2 AM. If I didn’t get that under control, I would have not only been wasting my time, but I would have been wasting my life.

I have three general categories for which I like to protect my time. One is for making progress toward my work/life goals. These are the things I do to move me forward in life. These are generally geared toward helping people in some way, generating more clientele, and increasing my revenue streams.

In this category, it is my sincere hope that one day I will have enough income to hire out all those necessary jobs that I don’t love to do so that I can focus all my time on the things that are my passion but until that time, there are still things I do to move myself forward that I don’t totally love. However, I try to get them done as quickly and as painlessly as possible.

The second category would be spending time with people I care about—those people who nurture me. I protect time for the special man in my life, my sons, my extended family and my friends. There are some people whom I avoid when I am protecting my time. They are the ones who generally take more than they give. Do you have people like that in your life? If they can’t be totally eliminated, at least minimize the time you give to these people.

The third category would be simply things that bring me pleasure or joy. There are things I do that I can do alone or with others when I need relaxation. I like to read a good book, watch a good movie, horseback ride, canoe, ski, walk in the woods and something I got to do this weekend—swim. Protect your time so that you get to do the things that bring you joy.

Organizing your time has to do with having a good time management system. Don’t wait until something is due tomorrow to start on it. Have a good plan and systems in place so you are in charge of your time instead of your schedule being in charge of you. Learn more about time management systems in our Time Management teleclass.

Another aspect of organizing one’s time is maintaining laser-like focus. Did you know that the average person’s mind wanders around seven to eight times a minute? Developing good work habits that include staying focused until the job is done is critical to organization.

Prioritizing your time has to do with deciding what’s most important. I said I have three categories—goal-oriented actions, time with important people and time doing enjoyable activities. They don’t necessarily prioritize in that order.

There must be a balance. I know that when I spend too much time working, I start to feel on edge and tense. This is generally a strong indicator that I need to switch my focus to one of the other areas. A person cannot be in control of their time if all they do is goal-oriented activity. A healthy balance is necessary for good time management and a healthy lifestyle.

Analog vs. Digital Transmission

Remember the old days of analog TV, radio, etc. Most of us do unless you’re really young. And still today there are plenty of analog systems in use. Normal radio still uses analog transmission. But the digital age has begun and more and more we will use digital systems rather than analog systems.

Digital transmission systems have many advantages over analog transmission systems, like higher quality of audio and video. How come digital systems can transmit higher quality signals than analog systems? The truth is that they don’t. They just use some tricks to eliminate noise.

Analog Transmission Systems

When something like video and audio, is recorded by an analog system, the recording has a certain quality. This recording (when done professionally) has a very high quality. When the recording is transmitted it is modulated directly to a carrier wave, which is then transmitted through the air, cable, via satellite, etc. During this transmission, the carrier and the modulated signal will loose amplitude (power) and due to interference noise is introduced to the carrier and its modulated signal. The result will always be a received signal that has a lower quality than the transmitted signal. Hence, the modulated signal, the recording, will also be of lower quality than the original.

Analog transmission systems are unable to maintain the quality the original has.

Digital Transmission Systems

In the digital world the recording can be transmitted to another place without loosing any quality. An exact copy of the original recording is transmitted. So how come that digital transmission systems don’t loose quality when transmitting a signal?

Well….. Actually they do lose quality just like the analog transmission system does.

Surprised? No Problem. Most people don’t know that digital signals still need to be transmitted by analog transmission systems. The trick is that a digital system doesn’t record analog signals, but encodes analog signals into bits (zeros and ones). A sample is taken many times per second and the size of each sample is written down in bits. For instance a sample with the value of 9 would be 1001 and 11 would be 1011.

The digital transmission system needs to transmit those zeros and ones, and it does this by modulating the carrier wave. Low power for a 0 and high power for a 1 (This is the most simple way of modulating. There are much more sophisticated forms of modulation, but it would take a whole book to describe them all.)

So on the receiving end, it doesn’t matter anymore what the quality of the signal is, as long as it still is possible to identify the zeros and ones. Noise in the received signal is no problem. A “1” with noise is still a “1” and a “0” with noise is still a “0”. Of course the noise can not be too high, otherwise mistakes would be made and a zero would be received as one or a one would be received as a zero.

So Digital Transmission Systems are better because they eliminate the effect of noise completely. You don’t look and listen to a received signal from an original recording, but you look and listen to a reproduced signal of the recording. The reproduction comes from an exact copy of the original recording.

The quality of what you see and hear now depends on your TV and Sound System. A high quality TV and Sounds System will give you high quality Video and Audio. The negative effects of the (still analog) transmission have been eliminated from the process.

Satellite TV makes use of Digital Transmission Systems. What you see at home will always be of Digital no (much less) noise Quality.

The Minnesota Vikings Are Playing Touch Football

It’s taken me all week to recover from the beating the Vikings took last Sunday. I’ve also been at a loss for words and that’s saying a lot for me. So what’s wrong with the Vikings? Everything but I narrowed it down to what they might be thinking.

Maybe Vikings players believe that they’re in a touch football league. In touch football you are extremely limited in the physical contact that you can make with an opposing player. That’s how I believe the Mike Tice led Offensive Line is playing.
They’re too afraid to make contact with the an opposing player.

I also believe that their defense thinks along the same lines. In the touch football games that I played in, you had to make a two handed touch on the opposing players body. The way the Vikings are playing and tackling, they’re probably not aware that in the NFL you must tackle the opposing player.
Mike Tice’s led Minnesota Vikings are pathetic.

ESPN.com thought that the Vikings were a legitimate contender to win the Super Bowl because they got rid of Randy Moss. They thought the Vikings would be more focused on team effort. We named ESPN.com our dummy of the week because of that thinking (you can visit our dummy of the week at www.itstherightway.com/dummy.html).
ESPN.com seems to have been all hype and no substance when it came to the Vikings.

We knew the Vikings would be awful this year without Randy Moss. They may be a focused team but they’re a team that plays together terribly. They are collectively pathetic.

There are three positive aspects to the season so far. They are:

1) The Vikings are about to play their best game of the year and have their best chance of coming up with a victory. The reason is that they’re entering their bye week and won’t be facing an NFL team this Sunday. They may have a team scrimmage and some part of their team may win.

2) The Vikings play in the worst division in the NFL. The combined amount of victories for the division is a whopping 3 games. The division’s record is 3 wins and 11 losses.
We believe if the Vikings can win six to seven games then they can win the division and make the playoffs.
That’s a complete joke.

3) The Packers have a worse record then the Vikings. They have the worst record in the division. At 0-4 the Pack look like melted cheese out on the field. This puts a huge smile on Vikings fans faces.

The only thing that I’m certain about this year is that this has been the worst four games that I’ve ever seen. There has been a complete break-down from top to bottom.
Something drastic needs to be done and done quickly.

5 tips to boost your PPC results on Google

As costs of PPC campaigns are increasing, internet marketers are
more than even under the pressure to deliver positive results.
The performance of PPC campaigns is dependent on following
factors:

- The impression rate

- Your ad position

- Click thru rate (CTR)

- Conversion rate

Finding the right balance between impression rate, ad position
and clicks is the starting point to successful PPC advertising.
Before exploring tips to help your campaign perform better,
let’s quickly sum-up the concept how Google displays your ads in
its sponsored results:

* Daily budget controls frequency of your ad display

The frequency is expressed by number of impressions. If your
daily budget is not high enough, your ad may not show all the
time (meaning you don’t have enough impressions per day).

* Ad position depends on the Rank Number

The higher the rank number, the higher is your ad’s position on
the page. The rank number is calculated based on the following
formula:

Rank Number = CPC (Cost Per click) x CTR (click through rate) x
(Ad quality)

Now we’re ready to explore what practices are more likely to
help us improve PPC campaigns performance:

1/ Improve Ad Delivery

If your ad does not show up every time when searches are
performed under your keyword, it may be a sign that your daily
budget is not high enough. As you now know, how frequent of your
ad display is controled by the daily budget. If you would like
your ad to be shown more frequently, please consider to increase
your daily budget in order to receive a maximum exposure for
your ad.

Normally, you have 50% margin for your daily budget. For
example, if your desired daily budget is $10.00 per day, you can
set your actual daily budget on Google to $15.00 per day,
because your actual spending is based on your click thru rate,
by setting the daily budget higher will allow your ad to get
more exposure, but your actual spending may still be in your
desired daily budget range.

However, be sure to monitor your daily advertising costs and if
they are rising too high, decrease the budget on the safe level.

2/ Improve Ad Delivery per Keyword

Each campaign can have one or more adroups. An AdGroup is a
group of keywords and ads that will display when those keywords
are searched for on Google. You may have experienced a situation
when only few keywords out of the whole AdGroup trigger your ad.
The explanation lies again behind the daily budget that controls
a number of impressions for your campaign. These impressions are
distributed between individual AdGroups and further between
individual keywords. So it may happen that some keywords in a
particular Adgroup have more impressions than the others,
meaning some keywords trigger your ad more frequently than
others.

If you want to improve the ad delivery for your targeted
keywords, you can consider splitting your keywords and creating
a new campaign for keywords with low impressions. This should
improve the frequency with which they will trigger your ad.

3/ Optimize your Adgroups

As mentioned above, each campaign has one or more adroups that
all share campaign’s impressions. Often, the impressions are not
divided evenly between adgroups. So it may happen that some
adgroups have more impressions and show their ad(s) more
frequently than others. It is a very similar scenario as with
keywords we just described above.

To improve results of your low-performing adgroups, you can
consider to create a new campaign for them in order to increase
the frequency with witch they show your ad on Google.

4/ Analyse your Clicks

Make sure the clicks are made for specific, targeted keywords.
If you’re getting lots of clicks on non-targeted keywords,
consider reducing Max CPC and/or your ad position in order to
improve your ROI. Similarly, you can raise bids for targeted
keywords that are performing well.

5/ Optimize your Ads

Make sure you bid on targeted keywords, create compelling ads
and link them to relevant content on your website. The keywords
you chose will segment the market and target your desired
audience. If you won’t chose wisely, you’ll finish targeting the
wrong market and wasting your advertising budget. The ad you
create needs to attract attention of your prospects. It needs to
communicate your unique selling feature - in other words, what
makes your product/service different from others and why a
visitor should visit your website. Be specific about your offer
and include call to action. Lastly, guide visitors to the
content on your website where they can access more information
about the offer advertised. The landing page should also clearly
state what is the next natural step to make - buy your product,
download the white paper, sign up for a free trial, etc.

PPC management requires lots of work and testing but if you
stick to the basics you can make money instead of losing them.
Remember, the only measure that matters on the Internet is the
profit you make.

Good Food Health Vitamin Intake

It is essential that a person is aware of what constitutes good food health vitamin intake. The federal drug administration produces a recommended daily allowance for the majority of vitamins which it regards as a good food health vitamin intake. These figures vary according to a person’s age, sex and some other factors so that the good food health vitamin intake for a young woman is going to be different to that of a man in his seventies.

The food health vitamin intake amounts of certain foods are included in the nutritional labelling. This labelling is important for a person to consider and helps ensure that they are receiving the correct food health vitamin intake from the foods that they eat. The nutritional information is often represented as a percentage of the recommended daily allowance of each vitamin and mineral and can help assess the value of the foods in the quest for good food health vitamin intake.

There are also a number of items that a person may want to restrict in their diet as part of their good food health vitamin intake. Again, the nutritional labelling of certain foods can help a person to see how high a product is in these undesirable contents. Salt and fat, for example, may be items that a person wants to consider limiting as part of their good food health vitamin intake even though they are not strictly vitamins. The majority of people actually refer to nutrients when they use the word vitamin and food manufacturers are aware that a person is looking at minerals and other items when they are considering their good food health vitamin intake. Fiber is another element that many people are more aware of as forming an essential part of a balanced diet and is necessary for good food health vitamin intake.

If a person is on a restricted diet for any reason then they need to pay even more attention to their good food health vitamin intake. Obviously, some foods contain different nutrients to others and this is applicable to vitamins as well and it may be more difficult for a person to achieve their good food health vitamin intake if they are unable to eat certain foods. Vitamin supplements can form an essential part of a good food health vitamin intake for people who are unable to obtain their vitamins from their normal diet. It is also worth remembering that the good food health vitamin intake for a person varies throughout their life depending on their general health.

E-books in Your Life

E-Books are making a big impact in the way we read, write and
use books. There is nothing holding back an expert with years of
experience on a particular field to write about all the ins and
outs, trade secrets, strengths and weaknesses of the industry.

Consider Colm Dillon, the author of Unique Real Estate
Development Method. He has 30 years and $1.2 Billion worth
of professional real estate development experience. Dillon wrote
his book purely from experience and practical usage. His eBook
is now selling in 63 countries and directly available on the
Internet.

More and more shoppers are now buying books online. If you
purchase a physical book that you have been dying to get your
hands on you still have to wait for shipping and delivery before
you can start reading. With E-Books you get instant delivery
24×7. No more waiting and watching the clock. While the
inspiration and interest is hot, you get to download your
favorite business book and start reading away.

Imagine, discovering an E-Book called Business Plans at 11.30 pm, decided to
buy and download the book at 12.05 am, finished reading it by
2.00 am. The 10 o’clock meeting next morning, and you are
already a guru on Business Plans and opportunities to lead you
company to new frontiers.

And that E-Book is very easy to share with your spouse or
friend, just email it. The E-book will never wear out for
millions of years to come. Hundreds of thousands of E-Books can
be carried in the palm of your hand no matter where you go in a
flash-drive or portable disk.

E-Books are the new media for traditional physical books, but
are E-Books here to stay? Consider Joe Vitale, author of
numerous successful E-Books and more recently famous for Attra
ctor Factor which has already outsold Harry Potter as #1
bestseller twice in two weeks. E-books are carving the path for
many talented authors around the world. E-books are not only
here to stay but also becoming very popular.

Big Ends, Conrods, or Connecting Rods

In recent times, some car manufacturers are opting to replace historically dowelled and interlocking arrangements of con-rod big ends, with physical breaks. There are many mechanics looking at these today, with bewilderment.

Instead of machined faces, stress points are engineered and the casting is then broken. When bolted together, the big end bore or the conrod can be machined to finished size.

By sheer coincidence only, can these parts be inter-changeable, thereafter.
In other words, the semi-circular caps that enclose one half of the plain white metal bearing, will only correctly fit its mating section of the original casting.

Some old school mechanics whose eyesight may be compromised, are in a difficult position, and even have issues with the disassembling procedures. The “crack” or “break” can be hard to notice, especially when it is not expected, and partially due to the fact that the “unit” was machined post-breaking.

The un-machined area of the casting has a rough texture as is normal, but masks to some extent, the true configuration of the assembly.

It gets a little more confusing. Instead of the historical physical “bend” or tab (out-turned section of the plain bearing, that use to stop them from spinning), these new types are in two halves, with no obvious means to prevent such spinning.

They rely on each half of the plain bearing, being the correct length, with respect to their circumference.

Those who still believe heavily on mechanical fastening opposed to modern glues for example may find it difficult to comprehend. And it is often these same people that cannot see the sense of it all.

The theory is that if each bearing half, when together, are slightly larger in diameter than the big-end bore of the connecting rod (con rod)in its correctly “torqued” state, then the outward force should be enough to drive the bearing. It actually makes sense too. If there happened to be more frictional force, inside the bearing (crankshaft diameter), then something is wrong anyway. Bear in mind that some lubricant should be there, as well as a lower frictional coefficient material that lines the big end bearings.

What is it all about?

Cost, speed or efficiencies!!

Each bearing half can be rolled to the correct length and wall-thickness, with one less folding operation for the tab.

The con-rod can be cast in one complete piece.

Mating halves will be less likely to be confused, but this will happen through human error, as many things do. The less number of operations, the simpler the process, and invariably the cost will come down. Whether profit margins increase, is another story.

An example of deliberate stress point incidence, to ensure that the fracture is within a certain area, has been around for years. It is with the fitting of a relatively large diameter “ball” if you like, within the relatively smaller outer-race bore of a “rose bush” or rose bearing. Common applications of these bushes/bearings are large angle, high-load, low speed, pivot points. Tractors, quarry equipment, fork-lifts, dumpers or any machinery with low precision, self alignment, high “swivel ability”, and low cost rugged requirements.

Handling Spam: Responding

Most spam messages will include a link at the bottom which
states something like “to remove yourself from the list click
here …”. On the surface this seems innocent enough, but if you
do respond you are potentially increasing the amount of spam
that you receive by many times.

Wait a minute. You mean you ask to be removed and instead not
only are you not removed but you will get more spam than ever?
How can that be so? To understand why you must first understand
how spamming works. You see, spammers operate by getting
zillions and zillions of email addresses however they can.

Sometimes they purchase CD collections of “15 million clean
email addresses” or “5 million email addresses” for some small
amount of money. I’ve seen these collections as cheap as $9.95
(one wonders how clean these collections are).

Another common tactic is to use spiders to scan thousands of web
pages for email addresses. These addresses are then added to a
database which is then sold or used.

And sometimes the spammers just pick a domain and send their
spam to a variety of possible email addresses at that domain.
They just pick a domain and use a dictionary of names and send
every one of those names to the domain. Those that generate a
bounced (error) message are deleted from the list.

So you see, the spammer begins with a list of email addresses
which are not validated. They are simply known to not have
returned a bounce message (an error indicating an email account
did not exist). However, what is not known is that a human being
is actually reading the mail from that mailbox.

The problem with responding is that you validate for the spammer
that a human exists at that email address. This increases the
value of your email address by many times. A smart spammer can
actually sell these verified addresses to collections of “clean”
lists.

Of course if you actually buy something from the spammer you’ve
increased the value of your email address to astronomical
levels. In this case, you may find yourself added to countless
“sucker” lists, receiving countless offers from the most obscure
places.

If You Work From Home In One Office, Keep Both Of Your Offices Tidy!

If you work from home you don’t need me to remind you that there
is a price to pay for this luxury. You may save on rent but you
have to work hard to keep a balance. If your work space starts
to get mixed up with your living space then in the worst case
scenario you can end up unhappy at home and unhappy at work.
Putting the problems with your physical work space to one side,
what about your virtual work space, your virtual office? If you
also work online then you will know that sometimes information
is stored on paper (hard copy) and sometimes it is stored on
your PC and sometimes it is stored on both mediums. But as your
business grows, so does the amount of information that you need
to store. What then becomes critical is the organisation of your
information. This article aims to highlight just how important
it is to be organised when managing your files and folders on
your PC. I can’t give you a script-like formula because every
different person will have different methods but the most
important thing that applies to everyone is to realise just how
important this part of the job is. If you choose to learn the
hard way (as I did) then you will come to a complete dead end,
struggle to make money online and you will realise that -

1. You must use consistency when naming folders. Every seperate
individual can use different wordings and techniques (as long as
you work alone) but you must consistently use them throughout to
organise your folders and files on your PC and on your server.
This is a good habit which can be used throughout the different
areas of your work, such as on your websites.

2. If you don’t know where to start, just remember that the
ideal system is based on logic. For example this is a quick
example of one of my folders - Top folder - Work 1st level down
- Folder1 - Work in progress, Folder2 - Completed work 2nd level
down in folder 1 - Folder 1 - Articles, Folder 2 - eBooks 2nd
level down in folder 2 - Folder 1 - Articles, Folder 2 - eBooks

This is just a quick example. You may have many more folders
(branches) in the tree and I’ve made it a simple example just to
demonstrate the point. You’re probably thinking, “So? That’s
obvious” and it’s meant to be. My point is that if you look at
your folders you will more than likely find that they have ‘lost
the logic’ somewhere along the line. Which leads me nicely to
point three……

3. Even the most organised person needs to regularly ’spring
clean’ their folders and sweep away the ‘dust’. It’s a horrible
job but it’s got to be done. When your physical office is untidy
it is somewhat easier to get around to doing the tidying up.
Once you can’t find anything or can hardly open the door then it
is easy to decide that it’s time for a tidy up. But it’s not so
easy to get around to spring cleaning the PC and the effects of
an unruly ‘virtual’ filing system is much more destructive to
your ‘work from home’ business.

4. Don’t be scared to create a system that seems to have too
many folders. For some reason the human brain is naturally more
likely to avoid having too many folders than it is to avoid
having unorganised and poorly named folders. But this is back to
front. When you are managing your folders remember that when you
get to a point where you are about to split a folder and create
two from it, it is always preferable to do this than not. If a
little voice in your head says, “Don’t split them, you’ll have
too many folders if you carry on like this” - just ignore it and
split the folders! This is an example -

You have a folder called widgets which you have created to
contain any information that you find/create on widgets. You
swipe an article on widgets by someone else plus you write your
own article about widgets. You find some text that you want to
keep because it teaches you stuff that you need about widgets
and you also buy an eBook about widgets. There are two important
things to consider -

1. It is better to create four new folders in the widgets folder
than to just throw all four items in the folder. Why? Because it
might seem when there is only four items that it doesn’t matter,
but you can be sure that in a short while you will have thirty
different items in there and the whole thing becomes a mess. So
go and create four folders which could be named - a)other
people’s (widget) articles b)my (widget) articles c)(widget)
swipe file d)my widget study purchases (for the eBook)

2. Sometimes before you create the new folder system, you may
have to make decisions. For example, using the above widget
example - after you have dealt with widgets you may go on to do
similar studies of a hundred other products. Then you will end
up with a hundred different folders, each concerning a different
product. This may be OK, but it may also be better to have all
the articles by other people in one folder for all the different
products, all the swipe files in one folder etc. The point is
again that there is no hard and fast rule except for these two
golden rules of folder management -

1. Do allow the time for this organisational task. It is
important and it always takes twice as long to go backwards and
reorganise it once it descends into chaos.

2. Try to think ahead and design systems that will work at the
moment and will more than likely work in the future as your
business grows and changes.

Remember - being organised may be boring but it’s possibly the
most vital but most undervalued hidden ingredient of every
