Monte Carlo gambling

The foundation stone for the first casino of Monaco was laid
down when Prince Charles III allowed a joint stock Company to
build a casino in his empire, in 1856. Now, one of the most
elegant casinos of Monte Carlo is Casino de Monte-Carlo. This
magnificent structure was added to Monte Carlo in 1878. It was
designed by Charles Garnier who is also the architect of the
opera house in Paris. The architecture of this building speaks a
lot about the rich cultural heritage. Various frescoes,
sculptures, stained glass windows adorn this casino. The casino
has also served as an auditorium for various ballets and
concerts, attracting international audience. Another attractive
feature of the casino is its private rooms which are more royal
as compared to their European counterparts. The visitors can
enjoy various table games in these lush rooms. The casino also
requests its guests to follow a formal dress code.

Another casino is the Le Café de Paris which houses around
twelve hundred slot machines. This casino hosts various gambling
games. The theme of decoration is Monte Carlo in the late
1800’s. Next one in line is the Le Sun Casino situated in the
Monte Carlo Grand Hotel. It is a close resemblance of the famous
casinos of Las Vegas. The Le Sporting Monte-Carlo offers its
guests gambling games like roulette, baccarat, banque a tout va,
blackjack, chemin de fer, and craps. However, this casino is
o-pen only during summers.

Apart from gambling, Monaco offers various other facilities
which range from Museum and Palaces to swimming and racing. The
Musée Océanographique is a famous attraction among the fish
lovers. The museum contains 4500 variety of fish. Apart from
this, the museum also attracts art lovers because of its
metaphorical interiors. Another museum is the Musée National,
which has a collection of ancient dolls and figures.

Changing of guards at the Palais du Princeb is one more
interesting attraction. This palace was the house of the ancient
rulers of Monaco, The Grimaldis. The ceremony takes place at
noon every day.

The nature lovers would be pleased to know that Monte Carlo has
one of the most beautiful gardens. The Princess Grace Rose
Garden contains more than 400 bushes of rose and the Japanese
garden has a Zen meditation area. However, most attractive of
all is the Jardin Exotique, which means ‘the Exotic Garden’.
This garden is known for growing more than 7000 varieties of
cacti.

Water attractions in Monaco include two beaches with paid
private sections and an Olympic - sized pool located at the
port, called Stade Nautique Rainier III. Another event that
attracts sports lovers is the Grand Prix Automobile de Monaco.
The race is conducted in May each year on a 3.382 km circuit. To
complete a perfect holiday, Monaco organizes a circus festival
and a fireworks festival each year.

Monaco is a nature’s haven, ideal holiday spot with its mild
winters and sunny summers, though gambling and tourism form only
15% of Monaco’s total revenue. One can reach Monaco by air,
through the Nice airport which is just 25 miles from Monaco. The
SNCF train from France is also a picturesque journey.

Tasting Wine: The Basics For Beginners

Your tongue is covered with over 10,000 individual taste buds. These receptors enable us to detect the presence of certain compounds in our food and drink. Yet for all the adjectives we have to describe flavors, there are only 4 basic flavors the tongue can detect, with a fifth having been described in Asian cultures and only recently being accepted in the west. The four we commonly think of are sweet, sour, salt, and bitter. The fifth flavor perception has been named by the Japanese as umami, or the savory sensation, associated with protein or meats.

So if the tongue has such a limited role to play in how we perceive wine, then where does all that wonderful experience come from when we sip and enjoy a glass? The answer is in front of your nose; or rather it is your nose. The sense of smell is more important to taste than the tongue itself. So what better place to start tasting wine than with the aroma? Well, actually before you ever taste or smell the wine your eyes will see it, so let us start with a look at the wine.

Color and Clarity

The first thing you should do is hold your glass at half an arm’s length, and against a while or light colored background. Look at how the light comes through the wine. A good quality wine should be bright, with no cloudy haze or particles floating around. If it is a sparkling wine the bubbles should be fine and leave a delicate mist bursting at the surface. If the wine appears brownish, like is has been tinted, it may very well be oxidized. The color of white wine is often very telling of the flavors they contain. Lighter, pale straw colored wines are likely to taste lighter and crisp with very fresh citrus or herbal notes, whereas darker whites will have more bold oak or vanilla components. The color of red wines will be very indicative of the grapes used, ranging from pale burgundy to a purple crimson.

Aroma

Gently swirl the wine in the glass for a moment, and before you even get the glass to your nose you will start to smell it. The first aromas to get to your nose will be the highly volatile esters responsible for the fruity smells, as well as alcohol. Now bring the glass up to your nose, but don’t put your nose in the glass, after all you are going to drink from it in a moment. Give a nice gentle but lingering sniff. This will be the most complex part of the wine as there are literally hundreds of components contributing to the wines aroma. If there is any sign of spoilage, stop now before you ruin your nose and taste buds for the night. There are many words used to describe wine aroma, from fresh fruit, dried fruit, herbal, grassy, oaky, vanilla, citrus, floral, to less desirable like chemical, sulphur, or madeirised (oxidized). Wines that have been aging for a while may even develop some aromas that are earthy and almost like truffles. Don’t be too concerned with the exact description, just use other flavors you are already familiar with and can remember for future comparisons.

Tasting

Finally take a sip of wine into your mouth but do not swallow. Don’t worry, we wont’ ask you to spit it out, after all the vintner made the wine to be consumed. But do hold the wine in your mouth a moment. Now you will quickly perceive acidity (sour), on the sides of your tongue, and sweet on the tip. And soon after if there are any tannins on the wine they will make themselves known as the sensation of drying, or almost “sticking” to your tongue. Breathe out into your nose a little and you unleash the full potential of the wine. By now the wine has change dramatically as you progress from the fore palate through the mid to the end palate. Finally swallow and any bitterness will be perceived on the back of your tongue, and you can really enjoy the lingering affects. As you proceed through these steps you may be amazed at how different the perception of the wine is.

Many wines excel at a single point or two along this tasting path, but only those wines that are exceptional improve with each phase of tasting and culminate with a lingering end palate that leaves you begging for another sip. While these are just the basics, it can many years and literally hundreds of wine samples to become expertly tuned into tasting wine.

Question: I Bought a Ton of Books to Resell Them Online, but They’re Worthless-What Can I Do?

QUESTION: I purchased a skid of 450 remainder books for $2.50 per book from a wholesaler on the Internet, thinking I’d resell them for a big profit on Amazon. I didn’t get to pick the titles, and it turns all of them are selling for pennies on Amazon Marketplace. What should I do?

ANSWER: This is why I don’t recommend that new sellers jump into the remainder or overstock business. All sales are final. So if you’re buying a pot-luck assortment, be prepared to lose most of your money.

I see three possibilities here:

– Group the books into small lots, three to 10 books per lot (grouped by author, genre, or theme) and auction them on eBay, listing the title and author of each book. Set just enough of a shipping fee to cover the postage. This seems to work well for lots of people on eBay — in the “Books, Wholesale, Bulk Lots” category. This is the most labor-intensive option, but would provide the best financial return (and build your feedback score on eBay.)

– Auction the books in larger lots (25 to 50 books per lot) without naming the titles. You should indicate in you listing that the lot is a great deal for book readers, but not for booksellers. Include a picture of the stack of books to encourage more bids.

– Donate the books to your local library or charity such as the Salvation Army, and you can probably arrange pickup of the books and a tax deduction.

Selling Your Home - What Can Go Wrong With Pricing and Loans

So, you’re selling your home (house, townhouse, condo,
apartment, land, lot, farm, ranch, etc.), what can go wrong? The
sad fact is that a lot of things can go wrong. However, don’t
despair, there are almost as many solutions as problems. In this
article, we look at problems related to pricing and a buyer’s
inability to get a loan.

Price Negotiation

A problem that shows up all too frequently during contract
negotiations is that the seller has left no room to negotiate
the price. If the seller shows no flexibility, they are apt to
chase buyers away. Mad.

The solution is simple and obvious, price your property a little
higher than you feel you have to get. It needs to be a
reasonable market price for your home, but you can start at the
top of the market. Then, if your buyer wants to negotiate price,
you have built in wiggle room.

Price isn’t the only thing that matters to buyers. Settlement
and move in times are important, too. This is especially true if
the move involves a new employment situation, a new school
district, etc. If you can be flexible on those points, that can
tip the choice to your property over a competing home.

Another sticky wicket during contract negotiations is
encountered when buyers ask sellers to pay all, or some, of the
buyers’ closing costs. Often, sellers’ knee jerk reaction is,
“Why should I pay his closing costs? Mine have never been paid
by the seller.”

Whoa! Don’t worry about what the buyer is getting out of it.
Look at what you’re getting. Is your bottom line what you want
it to be? Close to it? Maybe you should consider paying all, or
most, of what the buyer requested.

No matter what the proposal is during contract negotiations,
don’t freeze into a negative position. Think big picture. Think
bottom line. Your bottom line.

The Buyer Can’t Perform

Everything was going along swimingly and then you get a call.
The buyer can’t qualify for a loan to buy your home.

Check to be sure the buyer has approached a lender who will make
loans to people with less than perfect credit. If that doesn’t
work, write it off as a mistake. The next time someone wants to
write a contract offer, make sure they have a letter from the
lender saying they’re qualified to buy your house.

The key to selling your home is to stay calm. There will be
hiccups and bumps, but don’t let them overwhelm you. Typically,
the buyer really wants the property. Work with them and a
solution can usually be found.

TIME, The “Undervalued” Resource”

We are all born equal! We all have the same 24 hours in a day as Oprah Winfrey has the difference is how we choose to spend our time. No matter how you dissect this concept, there could only be 1440 minutes or 86,400 seconds at any given 24.

We’ve all been there and continue to get caught up in last minute rushes to meet deadlines, meetings that are double booked or achieve absolutely nothing, days that seem unproductive and crisis that spring unexpectedly from nowhere and destroy the most carefully planned day.

Somewhere in our education program, we all learned about the mathematical term “transition property” where if:

A=B and B=C, then A=C

Let’s try to apply this formula to what we’ve read so far.

•Time Management (A) = Planning & Prioritization (B)

•Planning & Prioritization (B) = Productivity & Success (C)

Therefore…

• Time Management (A) = Productivity & Success (C)

14 years ago my family and I moved to Central California from Los Angeles. For us, we were living in a fast-paced world and everything and everybody seemed to be in a great hurry. Long commutes, rush hour traffic, being stressed all the time had a time slot in my day planner with my permission until I realized I was wasting time, a resource that I couldn’t stop or reverse even if I wanted to. The decision to move came in very easy and with it came the abundance of time and the guilty pleasure of “sneaking” or “stealing” a few moments of the day for myself and if you haven’t guessed it by now, I had the recipe for disaster brewing very slowly.

It is crystal clear to me that we all know about how important managing time is but frankly many of us aren’t that good at it.

In this article, we will target 3 specific elements that act as the foundation of time management and give you few specific techniques to manage time and enhance your skills better.

Define time: When we reference time in our daily lives, we talk about wasting time, spending it and needing more of it. Webster’s definition of time is: “The measured or measurable period during which an action, process, or condition exists or continues”. Time is a resource you have complete control over that you choose to use consciously and only you decide how you want to spend it will be my definition. What is yours?

Prioritize: Remember you only have 24 hours in a given day. Use the LEAN approach and eliminate that which brings you no benefit whatsoever. Distinguish between what’s important vs. what’s urgent. Doing what’s important will leave you with a feeling of being in control of your life.

Adopt the approach: This is not about a sophisticated tool that you would use to manage your time. I am referring to what’s important to you in life and what values and roles do you want to focus on. Adopt a time management approach to maintain or achieve what you’ve designated as important. If you don’t decide what’s important to you, almost anything can compete for your time and attention.

Earlier in this article, we talked about the three elements that makeup the foundation for “Time Management”. 1) Understand and learn YOUR interpretation of time, 2) Plan smart and distinguish between what’s important and urgent, and 3) Focus on what you want to achieve and how important is that to you in life?

Once you establish the foundation, refer to the process of time management and use these techniques that will allow you the time for pursuit of your goal. The techniques I’m about to share with you are traditional in nature but what separates mediocre results from those which are extraordinary are the principles that take over where the traditional time management skills leave off.

• Are your organized?- Keep an orderly desk with a place for everything. Get rid of clutter and waste. You won’t be wasting time to look for stuff.

• Do you say no?- Avoid asking for forgiveness later for not being able to complete a task on time. Say no in advance to excessive work.

• Do you procrastinate?- Find out the real reason why you don’t want to begin with the task on hand. Motivate yourself to get it done. Start with some actions that are simple and easy and reward yourself for accomplishing them. Face procrastination head- on.
Here are three practices that take over where the traditional time management skills leave off.

• Exercise- Get exercise to fuel your body and nurture your soul. While you have to allocate time to get exercise, getting fit and being decisive will allow you to be more productive in the long run.

• Agile mind- Learn to multitask. We all know we only use a small percentage of what the mind is capable of. Use all of your mind and learn to multitask and get twice as much done in the same period of time.

• Review and Reflect- Step back from all of it and allow yourself to relax. Find an activity that will bring you mental and body relaxation. Careful, don’t confuse relaxing with wasting time. Regroup and allow for what really matters to you in life drive you.

In Summary, effective time management is essential to personal and business success. When people take the time to plan and prioritize, they can increase their productivity and sense of personal satisfaction with their accomplishments.

Take the first step toward mastering the art of time management. When you find yourself overwhelmed by a large list of daunting chores, you will be glad you did.

Parent Involvement: Finding Your Way in Middle School and High School

In elementary school it’s pretty straightforward: bringing in cupcakes to help the room mother, reading a story to the class, or helping out at the science fair. Your child is happy proud evento have you be a part of his classroom activities. But then comes middle school. It’s a new world.

“No, Mom! Please don’t come! None of the other parents come, and I don’t want you to be the only one!”

Sound familiar? Yes, parent involvement does change as our kids enter adolescence. So we need to change right along with them. Because NOT being involved is NOT the right answer.

Why is this so important? There are many reasons:

  • By involving yourself in your child’s middle or high school you are showing him or her that you value education. When you attend school events you are demonstrating commitment to education. This may be one of the most powerful ways to instill this value in your teen.

  • Students with parents who are involved in their school tend to have better academic performance, fewer behavioral problems, and they are more likely to complete high school.

  • Despite the impression you may receive from your teenager, recent research shows that teens want their parents involved, and they feel that parent involvement in high school is even more important than in elementary school.

  • The relationships you develop at school will give you information and insight as to your teen’s world, friendships, and the expectations your child is faced with.
  • Your involvement lets the school staff know that you value education and that you are someone with whom they can have a relationship. This can have a direct and positive effect on your child’s educational experience.
  • Should issues arise at the school, or with your child, you will already have relationships with people there that can help you.
  • Schools need your help. Schools are often understaffed due to tight budgets and they can use your help in many ways.
  • It can be fun, and in addition to finding new ways to use your skills, you will make new friends in your community.
  • The more in touch you are with your community, and your child’s friends and friends’ families, the more you are able to knowledgeably support your teen.
  • If you want to see change, the best way to impact it is to be involved from the inside.
  • You can learn new skills through your involvement in school.
  • Involvement in your teen’s school has a direct benefit to both of you. This has been demonstrated over and over again.

Your teen’s response to your participation, however, deserves to be respected. If she doesn’t want you to have direct involvement in her activities there, you can find other ways to be involved.

Here are some approaches you can consider:

  • What do you do well? If you are comfortable writing, offer to write a piece for the school website or newsletter.
  • Contact the PTO and offer your services to help them. If you like to cook, offer to prepare a dish for an upcoming event. If you’re a whiz with the computer, they’ll find you a job. Be creative with them in finding an appropriate answer that fits your schedule.
  • The PTO often has a person who is assigned to gather volunteer names, information about their interests, and serve as a liaison. Touch base with this person; get your name on some lists.
  • If you are more comfortable with collating or copying papers or doing office work, school staff may soon be fighting over you! Let them know your availability.
  • If working at home or at night fits your schedule best, let the volunteer organizers know this. They can direct you to appropriate opportunities and will be grateful for your help.
  • At a minimum, go to all the school events that you can. Get your name on the mailing lists for all announcements. Be there; and be involved. You need to pick up the phone and make it happen. It’s your job, and it matters to your teen’s success.

The Four Season of College Basketball

There are four seasons packed into a college basketball year:
Non-conference play, conference play, conference tournament time
and postseason action (NIT and March Madness). Each has unique
attributes. Non-conference action starts off the year where
teams are getting acquainted with new personnel and facing many
schools they’ve never played before. Conference action finds
teams battling for positioning against teams they face two or
three times every year, while tournament time in February and
March focuses on winning the conference title, having a winning
season, and positioning their team for an invite to various
    dances.

We are in phase two right now, conference play. Conference play
is unique in that schools are not traveling as much. A year ago,
North Carolina opened the season at Santa Clara, meaning a team
from the southeast was traveling all the way across the country.
After which the Tar Heels took on teams from the Big 10,
Mountain West, the SEC and the Pac 10. That is a lot of travel
time as well as facing teams they had never seen before. This
makes matchups often difficult and upsets more likely (North
Carolina lost 77-66 at Santa Clara as a 13-point favorite).

Conference play means playing teams in your region, which cuts
down significantly on travel time. It also means players are
facing other players they’ve seen last year, probably several
times, and playing in facilities they have seen before.
Home/road play is certainly a key element for handicappers to
pay attention to, but with shorter distances and familiar places
to go to, it can be less a factor with certain teams because
they’ve been to the opposition’s gym before.

Take a look at Buffalo. Buffalo just came off an impressive win
over Eastern Michigan, followed by a close 84-82 loss in
overtime at a very good Northern Illinois squad. Buffalo got the
cover in both games. The Bulls were experienced and not caught
off guard by these teams, because Buffalo had beaten both a year
ago. In fact, last season Buffalo beat Northern Illinois twice,
86-80 at home and again in the MAC tournament, 73-66. That’s
three games against each other in less than a year. Familiarity
may breed contempt in some social circles, but it helps in
    preparation in college basketball.

As conference play continues this month, it’s important to look
back at how these teams did in recent years, especially with
teams loaded with seniors. Buffalo is an uptempo team so perhaps
they can have an edge over a team that lacks depth and plays a
slower style. Fortunately, there is a point of reference to go
to: The last few meetings! But don’t stop there: Check the
boxscores of those games. Did Buffalo play a close first half
against a team lacking depth, then blow them out in the second
half? If so, that could mean a potential wager on the second
    half.

Another example could be a team with a significant rebounding
advantage in the frontcourt taking on a team with a small
frontcourt. Again, go back and look at recent games. Did they
own the glass the last meeting? How about the last three
meetings? Conference play offers many opportunities to do this,
especially with teams facing each other two and even three times
    a year ago.

    The Cost of Granite Countertops

The beauty, hardness and utility of granite makes it a highly desirable material for countertops in home design. In addition to its natural strength, granite is a beautiful stone that adds color and warmth to a room. Though the cost to add granite countertops to any new kitchen or remodel can be quite high, they remain the premiere choice in many new and remodeled homes.

The price of granite countertops ranges from $60 to $120 a square foot, which may or may not include the cost of installation. Discount granite can be found for as little as $30 per foot, not including installation. The premium cost is not in the stone itself, but rather in the costs related to transportation and installation.

The stone industry remains unregulated, which can make it confusing. Every entity that handles the granite, from the quarry to the supplier and fabricator, can establish their own pricing based on the demand in the local market. Dealers who provide full service, so that a homeowner doesn’t have to do the shopping or planning, will add a markup of up to 50%.

Granite suppliers will typically have three or four groupings (or “tiers”) of granite to choose from. The first tier will consist of the premium products that sell for the highest price. Stones are grouped based on several criteria including the country of origin, color, veins or patterns, thickness of the slab, amount of soft minerals in the stone, and current fashion trends. Some granite colors exhibit “”movement”", or a distinctive pattern within the color. The combination of color and movement also affect the final price of granite countertops.

Granite from lower tiers has the same beauty and utility as the slabs in the upper groupings. Additionally, stones in a lower tier could be harder than stones in a first tier, so it pays to get out and look around. A lower tier could also be referred to as “commercial grade.” Typically the commercial grades have a large number of “pits” that have been filled in. The presence of softer minerals may require additional cabinet supports or penetrating sealant, which adds to the final price of granite countertops.

Cheaper, thinner cut stone may be a little less than two centimeters instead of a recommended three, in which case the installer would laminate it to plywood backing for additional stability. Discount granite suppliers will typically deal with a thinner cut stone; many suppliers now carry stones that are intentionally cut thin and laminated at the quarry. It is now common for stone that originates in Asia or India to be cut thin and fabricated prior to shipping. Pre-fabrication does create a lower cost product with less waste being shipped to the supplier. In addition, the fabrication is done in countries with much lower wages, saving on the labor costs at the final destination.

The price of granite countertops is greatly affected by the number of seams and cuts that will have to be made in the stone slabs. Discuss how the cuts will be made when the installer or fabricator makes their preliminary measurements for the template. Another thing to question are the hidden costs of wasted material. Depending on the length of countertops being installed, there will be at least three square feet of waste by the time the fabricator is finished. The cost of wasted material is paid by the homeowner.

Shopping for granite countertops doesn’t have to be frustrating. Focus on finding a reputable supplier and installer who are willing to answer all your questions. Despite the fact that labor expenses are the largest price of granite countertops, this is one project that needs to be left to the professionals. The oversized sheets are extremely delicate and must be precisely cut. Failure to properly set a granite countertop could create an expensive mistake for a do-it-yourself homeowner.

Granite Countertops provides detailed information on granite kitchen and tile countertops, advice on installing and cleaning granite countertops, information on price and locations to purchase discount granite counter tops, and more. Granite Countertops is the sister site of Kitchen Sinks Web.

Does Your Brochure Pass the Test - Or is It Headed for the Trash? Part One

The decision on whether or not someone will read your brochure is usually decided in the first 5 seconds they look at it. What kind of message are you communicating in that five seconds? Will you make a favorable impression with your prospect? Will you move your prospect closer to the sale?

There are really only two key elements that will determine how well your brochure is received by prospects. These two elements will ultimately make the difference in your brochure being a tool that makes you money, or just something else that costs you money.

What are those two all-important elements: 1. the Image or look 2. the Message

This is part 1 in a two-part article. In part 1 we will discuss what you need to ask for from your printer to make sure that your brochure looks top notch.

Here are 5 things you should keep in mind when you are evaluating your layout and your printer.

    1. Choose Offset Printing. Offset printing is a type of printing that causes the ink to become a part of the paper. Offset printing creates a rich, vibrant look that digital printing can’t touch. Offset printing isn’t all that common because good Offset printing presses cost in the millions of dollars.

    2. Choose Thick Paper - preferably 100# Glossy. If your brochure is too thin or too light-weight it might appear cheap. You don’t want that impression to be transferred to your business. The most common paper weights are 70# and 80#. 100# is a little less common which makes it stick out. Plus, 100# feels heavy and high-quality. Glossy paper takes the look of quality up a notch.

    3. Add Aqueous Coating. While this isn’t the industry standard, aqueous coating adds a layer of style to your brochure. Plus it causes the colors to “jump” off the page so to speak. It makes the whites appear whiter, and so on. Ask your printer if they offer aqueous coating. If it doesn’t cost very much to upgrade, it’s worth it. There are a few printers out there that offer aqueous coating FREE.
