Won’t Be Denied: a suspense novel — a portrait of an obsessed, single African American female.

Atlanta, GA, October 13, 2004: Today there are many single women over the age of thirty. The 2000 Census Bureau recorded that 2,219,489 women between the ages of 30 and 34 have never married.

The vast majority of single black women make up 60 percent of all unmarried women. By the age of 30, a mere 45 percent of black women have married, compared to 80 percent of white women.

Such disproportionate statistics have led to many hypotheses as to why large proportions of the African American female population are single. Social psychologist and author of “Black and Single”, Larry Davis explains the “black romantic market” in the article, “The State of Our Union: Black Love and Marriage, 2004″, on Africana.com. Davis believes that social factors such as black male imprisonment and interracial relationships leave black women outnumbering black men 2 to 1. Within the same article, therapist and radio personality Audrey B. Chapman disputes Mr. Davis’ figures. It is her belief that the proportions are closer to 4 to1 or 6 to 1.

“I figured that as I made more money and got the education that’s required to get a good job, that that would automatically make it easier for me to find someone,” said Lana Coleman, a Pasadena Calif., attorney, in the 2003 Newsweek article, “Black Gender Gap”. “But it’s really been the opposite.” Ms. Coleman’s sentiments are reflective of other self-reliant and professional black women.

The chances of a black woman finding a single, 33 - 39-year-old, heterosexual, college educated, successful African American male in a 1 percent population is about .16 percent. The 1 percent includes those men in cities and their surrounding suburbs with large urban populations, such as Chicago, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., New York, Oakland, and Detroit.

Essence magazine’s advice columnist, Gwen Grant, stated in the Savannah Morning News, 2002, that educated black women should expand their selection to dating outside their race. If not, they will continue to have limited options.

The most extraordinary statistic is that only 22 percent of an African American woman’s life span will be spent in marriage.

With the unstoppable globalization of economy, careers and culture are breaking barriers and making a borderless world. Nowhere is this more apparent than in careers. Internet has literally become the window to the world. As information and opportunities abound, the choice in careers is no longer limited to a region, but spread wide across the world. This has opened the field for newer pastures and wide range of job opportunities. Consequently, the need for learning foreign languages has become necessary. Besides, in the highly competitive business world that we are in, knowing additional languages invariably gives you the added edge.

But learning a foreign language has its own subtle intricacies. The pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar and the use of proper syntax are just some of the major problems confronting any learner. However, there are some sound techniques for mastering a language. Ideally they are best done using memory techniques.

One of the basic methods is to associate the foreign word with a similar sounding word in the language you are very fluent in. For e,g., the French word for rug/carpet is ‘tapis’. You can associate the word with tap in English. Similarly, the equivalent of grump in French is ‘grogon’. By associating ‘grogon’ with the word groggy in English, which means sleepy and tired, you will be able to remember the French word.

Another memory technique is to use images for improving your foreign vocabulary. So for the above two words in French - ‘tapis’ and ‘grogon’, you can imagine taps being open and water running on a rug or carpet, and use the image to reinforce the meaning of the word ‘tapis’. In the same way, you can use a grumpy looking sleepy face to remember ‘grogon’ to convey the meaning grumpy. The image of drooping eyelids and mouth can be visualized to remember ‘grogon’ as grumpy.

Yet another well-known technique is using town language mnemonics. Since the basic vocabulary of a language pertains to everyday things - things that you will find in a town, village or city - you can use the different areas and objects to link the images and the corresponding foreign words. You can associate all the food-related words by visualizing a familiar supermarket and substituting the images and the words of food items sold there with the corresponding foreign language words.

Likewise, all foreign words concerning animals and birds can be remembered by imagining a zoo, and linking the images of different animals and birds in the zoo to the corresponding foreign words. In this way, you can cover different working zones of a town, village or city such as library, park, shopping mall, etc., and master the related foreign words associated with each sphere of activities. This way you will reinforce your foreign language vocabulary thoroughly.

Incidentally, Tony Buzan in his book ‘Using your Memory’ lists 100 basic words that are elementary to any language learning. This could be used to learn the primary words of the foreign language.

In all these methods, it would be obvious that memory has a chief role to play in learning a language, more so for increasing your vocabulary. You need to be familiar with the words in order to use them effectively. Since Mind Mapping technique was born out of the need for enhancing memory, Mind Maps serve as an indispensable memory tool. Yourself?

Most of us think of partnerships as being a two-way street
that is with another person or an entity. I am referring to
partnership within yourself. What better partner can you get
to know, understand and trust than yourself?

Here are some criteria that may help improve your Self-
Partnership.

1. “If you don’t know who you are you or where you’re going,

The better you understand your vision as to what you want the

How did this stimulate a business? Continuous division and
multiplication of meanings stimulates innovation. How?
Instead of sticking to the one definition given to a word you
allow the expansion in your thinking and stimulate the
entrepreneurial creativity within you.

One company grew and divided rapidly used this technique
which allowed each separate division to become ultimately
independent. To set it’s own business format instead of one
prescribed formula, used by the parent company. After all
one formula for success does not fit everything.

A second concept of smallness was to allow room for rapid
advancement and managerial growth, further stimulating
enterprise.

A third concept was keep departments small and
sharpened to one direction and activity or product. This
allowed for closer relationships with management, workers
and customers, instead of a massive over burdened
corporation.

Then finally a fourth premise was the distribution of authority.
Instead of having to go to a hierarchy as in some
corporations it is was only confined to this separate
company. This avoided inter-company factions and
competition since it was a separate entity free to compete in
an open market, thus no inter-departmental or division rivalry
or even envy. The interesting point is when this separate
company expanded then a new cell company was formed
from the main component, thus the continuous process of cell
division.

Ebay was only two years old when I discovered it.

A friend I worked with was also starting to sell on Ebay at about the same time, and we exchanged ideas and experiences constantly. Since we were already working together on our Ebay ventures, we decided to combine our resources into one company and grow it while we were still both working our regular job. We found our niche selling technical books and manuals as our little company began to grow and prosper. Our co-workers at the company we worked at during the day came to consider us the “Ebay Experts”. We were answering questions about online auctions on a daily basis, but one coworker had the same comment every day.

“Hey, show me how to make easy money on Ebay!” he would ask. It became a standing joke between My partner and I that usually came up around two or three in the morning during a marathon packing or email answering session. One of us would look at the other and mutter in a disgusted tone “Yea, Easy money on Ebay..”

In January of 2002, we had more sales, and more auctions running than ever before. We were looking at 100 to 150 auctions a day closing, and enjoying a sell-through rate of close to 75%. Our shelves were piled high with books and manuals, the shipping area was well stocked with supplies, and we were ready for long hours of fulfilling our orders.

Then, as if fate stepped in to see just what we were made of, a huge ice storm hit our part of Oklahoma taking out large sections the electrical grid. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that online businesses can do without many things, but electricity is NOT on that list!
On the third day of the blackout, we were able to learn from the radio (battery powered) that it wasn’t just our area, but over HALF the state of Oklahoma. Worse yet, the damage was so extensive it was going to be at least TWO WEEKS before power was restored! A quick calculation and we almost panicked. We would have over two THOUSAND AUCTIONS END, and no way to contact the bidders! If we didn’t keep up with the sales, payments, and shipping on a daily basis, we were in deep trouble… We couldn’t imagine what a mess it would be in TWO WEEKS!

The fourth day into the blackout, I made an executive decision. I grabbed the company checkbook, and headed for our closest Lowe’s Home Improvement center (about 70 miles away..). The little roadtrip turned into quite the adventure. Strange thing about a massive blackout is gas stations can’t pump gas without electricity, and you are burning gas while you are driving around looking for a gas station that was open for business. I was running on luck and fumes before I finally found a station and filled up. With a full tank of gas, I made it to Lowe’s and purchased a generator. We assembled the generator in record time, put oil in the engine and then realized… Uh Oh, we need gas for the generator. No local gas stations were open for business, and we didn’t want to risk another road trip. Using an old trick I hadn’t used since I was growing up on a farm, we were able to get enough gas out of my pickup truck to fuel up the generator.

The little generator fired up on the first pull, and with the help of a few extension cords and power strips, we had a computer network up and running at My partners house. It was then we made another interesting discovery. Cable internet connections do not work without electricity. I had a DSL internet connection at my house, so off we go with a partially charged battery in my laptop to test my internet connection. SUCCESS! DSL works off the phone line power so it was still functional. We made a quick drive back to My partners house to tear down the computer network and load the generator, then back to my house to set it all up again.
At 4:30 the next morning We had the network online and a couple of lamps for light. We were self-contained, and open for business. Now we could get to work, and so we did, for the next straight 48 hours. We had a pickup truck load of packages ready for the post office when it hit us, “Is the post office open?”. A quick phone call ( by the way, cell phones and cordless phones are useless during a blackout. The simplest plug-it-in-the-wall phones work great.) found us with another problem. Our local post office was closed (no electricity there either.) They did tell us the regional USPS hub had power, and was open 24/7. The bad news is, the regional hub was 75 miles away in Oklahoma City!

Meanwhile, back at the fuel issue… We were relieved to discover that two local gas stations had rented generators and were open for business. We gassed up and headed for Oklahoma City. With the load of packages on the way to customers and most of the other urgent tasks completed, we took a much needed break. We shut down the network and use the generator to power an electric griddle and make a hot meal. The little generator wouldn’t power both at the same time without throwing it’s breaker.

For the next two weeks, that poor little generator ran constantly keeping the computers running and the shipments going out, the questions answered, and our customers happy. Every other day I would make the 150 mile round trip to the USPS hub in Oklahoma City, stopping on the way back to fill the gas containers for the generator, and fuel up the truck for the next trip.

One evening we took a short break, and stepped outside for a breath of fresh air. We noticed something different…. THE STREET LIGHTS WERE ON! I ran inside and tried the lights… ELECTRICITY!

I went next door and asked my neighbor how long the power had been back on. “Oh, about four or five hours..”. We had been so wrapped up working in our self-contained office, we hadn’t realized the power had come back on!
With our ordeal behind us, we couldn’t resist the temptation to elebrate with a cold beer and a toast…

Thus, the whole situation remains to be stressful for everyone involved, but none more than the hundreds of unfortunate people who are needing a revision surgical process due to the issues with their implant not staying tight in the socket.

I have been studying several books lately that deal with subject of attracting prosperity, well being and abundance to oneself — partly as a refresher course for myself, but also partly because I was searching for answers for some of our clients in the Realm. Lately in the chat rooms, the issue of how to overcome bitterness or loss is a big topic. How do you be ‘better, instead of bitter’ when life hands you what feels like a terrible blow; whether it be to your heart, to your pocketbook or the very core of your soul?
First of all it is important to remember that you are not alone. Nobody gets through life unscathed. Everyone faces disease, death, poverty, abandonment and heartbreak. However like the old saying goes, ‘it is not the cards you have been dealt, but how you play them that counts’. (and I don’t mean Tarot cards here, either, lol)
After searching through several books here (some inspirational and some religious texts — the Zohar, the Bible, Louise Hays, Sanaya Roman, Elizabeth Clare Prophet and Florence Scovel Shinn, I came to conclude that all of these masters, whether they be a channeller or a master or a disciple of a religion were saying one thing. ‘Like attracts like.’ Therefore if your heart is filled with resentment and bitterness, you will attract the same. It is the old ’sowing what you reap’ thing from the Bible. So it is very important, no matter what your experience, to keep yourself emotionally clean and to learn how to separate your feelings from ‘what is really going on’. Hateful emotions such as obsession, jealousy and so forth block your connection to your higher self and prevent you from receiving your divine right — which is that wisdom that is transferred down to you from a Higher Power for you to use to improve your life and raise your vibrations so you can attract good things.
Apparently, the unattractive or unpleasant experiences that we attract into our lives are the result of a lack of faith in the higher power that lives within each and every one of this. This lack of faith manifests itself in a desire to control or reluctance to let go. Dwelling on the past (especially to happier times) is also a big block, as it creates a feeling of discontent that prevents you from connecting from the wisdom of your inner self.
Most religions, faiths and cults have their own version of the concept of ‘the Christ within’. This is called the super-conscious and is the energy that you want to be connected to. Most of us however are driven by energies of the subconscious, which in a way, can be compared to the fuel that drives a truck. This is a primitive and primal source that needs to be shaped and molded by your conscious mind to impress upon your subconscious that all will be well. If your conscious or every day mind is always trapped in a state of dread, anticipation, disappointment, fear, resentment or otherwise, than the subconscious mind picks up on that an MANIFESTS that situation. So things get worse and you repeat patterns or situations that you would rather not experience again.
This is why it is very important for each and every one of you to practice some form of positive thinking and to replace all negative thoughts with thoughts of forgiveness, hope and success (no matter how hard it is!) I know I cringe too whenever I think about this, because my personality just does NOT want to do it, but one of the surest ways to ensure success in your own future is to forgive or bless the person that has hurt you the most. If there was one thing, that I read, again and again, in all of my books, it is that, whatever you think, especially if it is negative, comes back to you in one form or another. For instance if you wish hellfire and poverty on an ex boyfriend’s head, you might experience that yourself in another form. For instance, they say resentment causes cancer. As a reader in the Realm, I have to see this principle of like attracts like in action all the time.
I have read again and again, that one’s future is like looking at a block of marble and like an artist, seeing the angel in the marble. It is important to train your mind so that it sees the future as a blank slate. If you see nothing but demons, when you look at a blank page, you will literally write yourself a disaster script or carve a demon out of the marble (the next loser boyfriend.) That is why it is important to practice some form of meditation to clear your head of negative thoughts, which like old toxins, cause a kind of cancer in your reality. Negative self-talk and criticism is very damaging and we underestimate the power of what we tell ourselves every day, in our minds to shape our destiny.
