In Poker, Everyone’s a Genius

In poker, it is very easy to go from looking like a genius to a donkey, and vice versa. Because of the element of chance that is involved in every pot, regardless of the amount of control you have, there are certain moment where a decision with the right outcome falling into place can make you look like you walk on water, while the wrong outcome makes you look like you shouldn’t have gotten out of bed.

One of the great thrills about the game of poker is that anyone can play, and though the professionals clearly have a decided advantage in minimizing spots where they would look bad, and maximizing their correctness, at the end of the day you just can’t control the whole thin.

Because of the nature of the game, too, it is easy for players not involved in a hand to act like they would have known exactly what “should have” happened. “Oh, I would have folded that draw” or “I would have definitely reraised him there” can seem like clear choices when all the card are down, but the truth is that each street of poker has various outcomes, which is why playing it is exciting, and always a different sort of feeling at the table.
