Office space in ‘The City’ is no longer among the top five most expensive places to rent in Europe. Only last year, ‘The City’ was number three, behind London’s West End and former communist Moscow. Research by property consultants Oncor International and NB Real Estate shows rents in ‘The City’ have dropped by a massive 38%.

The West End also fell by forty five percent. London’s famous offices in the Docklands business district were excluded from the figures. Dublin, Ireland’s capital managed to hold on to its fifth position, even though it has also experienced a 10% drop in the price of office rent.

NB Real Estate research director, James Crisp feels that the latest figures might not be such a bad thing for London. Crisp points out that previous rates were always thought to be high and this could make ‘The City’ more competitive, adding that the process had certainly been helped along by “the collapse in sterling in comparison to the Euro”.
