Criminal Justice Degree Requirements for Careers in Law Enforcement
We are often asked if a college degree is required to begin a career in Criminal Justice. The fact is years ago few Law Enforcement Officers held degrees beyond a high school diploma. Much like the rest of society many of the employers in the field of Law Enforcement now require potential job candidates to possess a Criminal Justice Degree before they even complete the application for employment and begin the interview process. A recent study showed that the majority of those employed in Criminal Justice now hold an advanced degree. The most common of degree held was the Associates which is often enough to open many doors in the field of Law Enforcement. Often times Officers will choose to go back to school to earn an advanced degree once they are in the Criminal Justice Field and have the benefit of a good income to finance their additional schooling. The Associates is a degree that can be finished in under two years and often at a community college offering the same quality of education as a larger school. When considering schools also look to make sure they are accredited which in a nutshell means the schools passes standards which will be accepted by the employer you choose. Regardless of what Criminal Justice Degree you choose to earn the important part is you get the degree which is something no one can ever take from you.
